Benefit Recovery is responsible for monitoring allegations of Public Assistance benefits being under or overpaid to a participant regardless of the cause. Benefit Recovery is responsible for the investigation of these allegations in a timely manner and for recovering the overpaid benefits.

Benefit Recovery accepts referrals and conducts investigations on reports of possible fraud with the goal of prevention, detection and prosecution. Fraud occurs when a participant knowingly and willfully provides false information about his/her circumstance. Fraud also occurs when a participant intentionally fails to report changes in circumstance in order to receive benefits for which he/she is not eligible. Cases of fraud are referred to the county prosecutor for criminal or civil action.
